Today: Full Case II

  1. Quick reminders: how grading works and what's coming back to you this week
  2. Form or confirm your Full Case II group
  3. Pick a domain and start narrowing to a case
  4. Start Section 0 of Part A, saving every link as you find it

Full Case II works the same way as Full Case I. You've done this once.

Grading Reminders

How Grading Works in This Class

Most assignments are graded meets the standard or does not meet the standard yet.

  • If it doesn't meet the standard, it comes back with comments and you get one week from that evaluation to revise.
  • One drop each, no questions asked: one Case Analysis, one Effort Report.
  • Class Engagement is 40%, Case Studies 30%, Case Design 30%.

What's Coming Back to You

Case Study I (Full Case)

  • By class Wed, Oct 14: you'll know if it meets the standard
  • Look for comments directly in your Google Doc
  • Revised Case Study I due Wed, Oct 21 (only if needed)

Case Design Scaffold 1

  • Feedback is coming, also as comments in your doc (Goal: Sunday, Oct 18th)
  • When it arrives, start your response-to-feedback document right away
  • Scaffold 2 (Fri, Nov 6) must respond to it in writing

Don't Let Revisions Collide

Next week is busy if your group is revising Case Study I:

Date What
Sun, Oct 18 Full Case II Update (Part A)
Wed, Oct 21 Revised Case Study I (if needed)
Sun, Oct 25 Full Case II Complete (Part B)
  • If you're revising, assign someone to it Wednesday when feedback comes back.
  • Full Case I feedback is the standard for Full Case II, so read it even if you met it.

Full Case II

Full Case II: Choose a Domain

Your group picks one broad domain, then narrows to one specific, documented case inside it.

โš–๏ธ Law & Criminal Justice ๐Ÿฆ Finance & Banking ๐Ÿ“ฐ Journalism & Media
๐Ÿ’ผ Hiring & Employment ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Military & Defense ๐Ÿ”ฌ Scientific Research

Same test as before: a named tool, a named organization, and a documented deployment.

See Schedule โ†’ Weeks 7 and 8 on the course site for prep reading.

What Should Be Different This Time

  • Narrow from domain to case by Wednesday, not by the end of the week.
  • Find sources about your case, not just your domain.
  • Use more than one kind of source.

Two things to push on this round:

  • Source variety. Law, Finance, and Hiring have strong official records: court filings, settlements, regulator reports (FTC, EEOC, SEC, CFPB, state AGs). News alone will be thin.
  • Who could change it. In Actions, name who had the power to change/constrain the system (a regulator, a court, a union) and what they actually did.

This Week: Part A (the Update)

Same eight questions as the Full Case I Update. Due Sun, Oct 18.

Questions 0โ€“4 Questions 5โ€“8
0. Your notes/research 5. The thinnest part of DTPA
1. The case (tool, org, what, when) 6. Where you disagree
2. How you got there (2+ cases set aside) 7. Plan for Week 8 (every member listed)
3. Sources so far (4+ about your case, APA) 8. A question for us
4. DTPA readiness (a claim + a question each)

New this round: if your Full Case I feedback flagged a problem, say in Question 8 how you're avoiding it this time.

Today: Get Started

By the time you leave today, your group should have:

  • โœ… Confirmed your Full Case II group
  • โœ… A domain, and a short list of candidate cases inside it
  • โœ… Started Section 0, saving every link and idea as you find it

Wednesday: narrow to one case. Friday: finish Part A.
