Choose one domain:

  • Criminal Justice: Risk assessment, policing, sentencing, parole decisions
  • Education: Personalized learning, essay grading, student performance prediction
  • Finance: Loan decisions, fraud detection, algorithmic trading
  • Employment: Hiring, performance evaluation, scheduling
  • Transportation: Autonomous vehicles, traffic management, logistics

Analysis (800-1000 words)#

1. The Application (150 words)

  • What specific AI application(s) in this domain?
  • What problem does it solve?
  • How does it work (in accessible terms)?
  • Who benefits from its use?

2. Stakeholders & Impacts (200 words) Analyze impacts on different groups:

  • Users/patients/clients: What’s the benefit? What are the risks?
  • Workers: Is automation displacing jobs? Augmenting work?
  • Providers/organizations: What are incentives to deploy AI?
  • Society: What broader implications?
  • Consider how impacts vary across demographics (class, race, gender, geography, etc.)

3. Ethical Issues (200 words)

  • What ethical principles are relevant? (autonomy, fairness, transparency, accountability, etc.)
  • What tensions or tradeoffs exist?
  • What could go wrong?
  • Who is most vulnerable to harm?

4. Regulatory & Governance (200 words)

  • What regulations currently apply?
  • Are they adequate? What gaps exist?
  • What accountability mechanisms exist?
  • What more needs to be done?

5. Your Informed Perspective (250 words)

  • Based on your analysis, should this AI be deployed more widely, paused, or heavily regulated?
  • What conditions would make it more acceptable?
  • What’s your reasoning?
  • What questions remain?
